The Brewers traded for Christian Yelich in January 2018 and he won the National League MVP eleven months later. That is about as fast as a trade can pay off. He followed it with a second-place MVP finish the next season, and for two years he was the most dangerous left-handed bat in the league. A Christian Yelich jersey is Milwaukee's most recognizable modern purchase, and No. 22 has been the number in that clubhouse ever since.
Milwaukee has one of the deepest color palettes in baseball β navy, gold, white, and the retro touches the team keeps reaching back for. Here is how the Yelich options actually differ.
How Yelich became Milwaukee's guy
Yelich came up with the Marlins and was already a solid everyday outfielder β a Gold Glove winner, a .290 hitter, a player teams liked without obsessing over. The move to Milwaukee changed the shape of his swing and the shape of his career. In 2018 he hit .326 with 36 home runs and 22 steals, won the batting title, and carried the Brewers to within a game of the World Series.
The 2019 encore was arguably better on a rate basis before a fractured kneecap ended his September. He has stayed the face of the franchise since, through lineup turnover and front-office churn, and Milwaukee has kept building around him.
That Marlins-to-Brewers arc matters when you shop. Yelich jerseys exist in both uniforms, and the Milwaukee ones are the ones tied to the MVP years.
Navy: the everyday Brewers look
The navy jersey is the default. It is what the crowd wears at American Family Field on a Friday night, it works with the team's gold accenting, and it hides a spilled beer better than anything else in this list. If you are buying one Yelich jersey, start here.
The Majestic navy player version has a slightly different finish for fans who prefer that cut. Same silhouette, same color story, and it wears just as well outside the ballpark.
White and white-royal: the cleaner options
The 2020 white is the home look β brighter, lighter, and the easiest of the group to wear in July heat. It also makes the Brewers' gold trim pop in a way navy does not.
The Majestic white-royal player jersey adds a blue contrast that reads a little more retro. If you like the 1980s Brewers aesthetic without going full throwback, this is a good middle ground.
NL Central fans usually end up owning more than one team's colors, and the divisional pairings are half the fun. Our guide to the Ryne Sandberg Cubs jersey covers the rivalry Milwaukee cares about most, and the navy-versus-Cubs-blue contrast is genuinely striking side by side.
Black-gold and Players' Weekend: the standout picks
The black-gold alternate is the boldest jersey Milwaukee has produced in years. It is the one that gets asked about, and it is the pick if you want a jersey that works as a piece of clothing rather than just team gear.
The 2019 Players' Weekend Pick-A-Player white is the collector's option. Players' Weekend ran for only a handful of seasons and the designs were never reissued, so this one is tied to a specific and now-closed chapter of MLB. It also comes from Yelich's second MVP-caliber summer, which does not hurt.

Sizing and fit
Order your usual US men's size for a proper game-day fit. Baseball jerseys are cut roomy through the chest and shoulders on purpose, so there is no need to size up unless you plan to layer a hoodie underneath β which, for April and September in Milwaukee, is a reasonable plan.
If you want the jersey to sit closer to the body as an open layer over a tee, size down one. The white and white-royal versions carry that trimmer look better than navy does.
Care: navy and gold need cold water
Turn it inside out, wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang it to dry. Navy fades faster than most colors when it meets heat, and gold trim dulls quickly in a dryer. Skip fabric softener, which coats the fibers and leaves stitched numbering looking flat over time.
For wrinkles, steam it instead of ironing. If you have to press, work from the inside with a cloth between the iron and the fabric, and never touch the numbers directly.
The short answer
Buy the navy first β it is the everyday Brewers jersey and the one you will actually wear. Add the white if you want a warm-weather option, take the black-gold if you want something with real presence, and go after the 2019 Players' Weekend if you collect limited runs.
